In a recent conversation on the showroom floor here at Kawartha TV and Stereo a couple of customers had expressed an interest in purchasing an 8k TV, however they had voiced a concern that was holding them back.

They were hesitant to invest in 8k due to the lack of available 8k content.

It wasn't the first time we'd come across this issue, so it has prompted us to share some thoughts on whether you should invest in an 8k television now, or wait till 8k content is more mainstream.

It is true, there isn’t a lot of 8k content available on the market yet, but we will still argue that there is a massive advantage to make the 8k plunge today.

The first, and lesser reason, is that (surprise surprise) the number of pixels when compared to 4k televisions (8k have 8,000 pixels across versus 4k’s 4,000 across) is double.

But there is a much bigger reason to invest in 8k.

Something these televisions offer that in our opinion makes the added expense more than worthwhile.

Upscaling.

Sounds great, but what exactly is upscaling you're undoubtedly wondering?

Upscaling is a process that optimizes lower resolution images for the 8k television. Basically upscaling takes an image and scales it up.

The upscaling concept isn’t new, while more basic upscaling has been in existence for some time now, the upscaling technology that is now being used on most new 8k televisions is based on artificial intelligence (or probably more accurately machine learning) and much more advanced.

So what does this mean at the end of the day?

Simply that current day upscaling makes the viewing experience infinitely better than it was in previous iterations.

So if you are one of those people who value the best possible picture quality, then there is no question about it, you need an 8k television. An 8k television will deliver a noticeably improved and virtually pristine image quality that cannot be achieved on other television screens.

But perhaps even better, thanks to upscaling, it will accomplish this regardless of whether you’re actually watching 8k content or not.

Heck a 8K TV, thanks to upscaling, could make one of your old VHS video tapes look amazing (or at least better than any other readily available technology could!).

Plus when you invest in an 8k TV you’re not only getting the best of the best, you’re future proofing your television viewing experience for when 8k content is mainstream. While everyone else will be playing catchup, you’ll already be sitting pretty because as some of the 8k television manufacturers are saying, 8k television is now the standard by which all other televisions are being judged.
