Would you be wrong to start to think that most (if not all) of the technological innovations that can be applied to televisions have basically been done?

While that day may yet come (arguable) as we write this the new innovations just keep on coming.

Consider mini LED televisions.

While you are probably aware of LED televisions (which have been readily available for several years now), the next generation of LED is apparently "mini".

So what is a mini LED tv?

Simply a television that uses mini LED’s for backlighting rather than "regular sized" LED's. Several manufacturers use this technology and while they all offer their own versions they’re all based on mini LED.

This is an improvement because the smaller LED footprint allows for a higher density than their larger LED counterparts and delivers improved local dimming control by offering more separate zones, a higher contrast ratio and more accurate color reproduction.

You may be thinking to yourself "this all sounds good, but will I really be able to notice a difference?"

YES!

But (as they say) don't take our word for it, stop into Kawartha TV and Stereo and see for yourself. Whenever people compare regular LED versus mini LED in our showroom the consensus is that mini LED TVs are a clear improvement when it comes to overall picture quality.

While we have you, we'll answer my next question that we are often asked when people are looking at Mini LEDs and that is, is a Mini L E D television better than a QLED?

The answer to this isn't easy.

While QLED is a different technology altogether some QLED tvs actually have incorporated mini LED as well for the similar mentioned a moment ago. Also, its important to note that performance can vary between models.

Beyond that, "better" is a subjective word. Mini LED's and QLED both have pros and cons (strengths and weaknesses?) and what is "better" could depend upon what you are looking for.

Thanks to Mini LEDs mini LED backlighting, you can get a higher contrast ratio and more accurate color reproduction, but this comes at a price often higher than QLED televisions.

Alternatively QLED TVs can offer a wide color range and higher peak brightness thanks to their use of quantum dot technology.

QLED's also offer better viewing angles.
