Picture this…

It's a beautiful Saturday afternoon with perfect weather (not too hot and not too cold). You've invited friends and family over to enjoy the magnificent day, fire up the barbecue and perhaps enjoy a few drinks.

By most any measure, you are officially having a party (or at the very least a "get together").

And what does every party (or get together) need beyond the food and drink we’ve already mentioned?

Music.

The right soundtrack to your event can make or break the day.

Sound like an exaggeration? It's not. Other than a knock on the door from police officers, there are few things that can kill a party faster than sound that is either not loud enough, or even worse too loud.

So, to ensure your parties don’t die premature deaths, the way we see it, you have two options…

The first option is to fire up a portable/ rechargeable speaker.

These mobile, go anywhere relatively inexpensive speakers are a fast and easy answer to music on demand.

If you are going this way, we recommend going with one that is waterproof (which also reduces its likelihood of being damaged due to dust and dirt). This way if you have a pool (or one of those spontaneous water balloon fights break out) you won’t have to worry about the speaker.

Option number two would be turn on your wired in, permanent sound system.

Unfortunately as handy, simple and cost effective as portable/ rechargeable speakers are, nothing (short of a live band) beats a properly designed and set up permanent speaker system.

When compared to portable/ rechargeable speakers, a permanent speaker system will almost be guaranteed to offer far superior overall sound.

The problem with rechargeable speakers (beyond the fact that when they run out of charge the party dies) is you don’t get even sound. Half the yard is too loud and the other half isn’t loud enough.

This can also cause issues with neighbours as again your inability to control the sound balance will almost assuredly cause issues with the folks on one side of your home.

With permanent systems you can strategically daisy chain multiple speakers (and even a subwoofer) to create a balanced sound throughout your outdoor living space. Then you wire them into an amplifier and can use bluetooth and wifi apps to stream music from your phone.

This way you not only allow your guests to enjoy that ideal combination of "loud enough to enjoy, but not so loud you can’t talk", you also

But how do they hold up in winter and rain?

As long as they are designed for both (most are) they’ll endure most anything Canada has to throw at them. They are hard wired right into the ground with special wire so you can leave them out all year long. Sun, rain or snow.
