Quantum dot OLED, or QD OLED as some people refer to it, is display technology that is now being offered in televisions and it offers a definite step forward in television technology when it comes to everything from picture quality, color accuracy, contrast and brightness.

Basically, with the exception of sound, Quantum dot OLED improves on everything most people want in a television!

While the technology involved gets pretty involved (the quantum dots absorb blue light emitted by the OLED and emit it at different wavelengths, creating a wider range of colors), to summarize quantum dot OLED basically improves upon regular OLED televisions by delivering

  • Brighter brights,
  • Darker darks,
  • More vivid overall colors,
  • Enhanced viewing angles and more

So, you get more vibrant and accurate colors which allow you view and experience images with more realism and more depth.

The question you may be asking yourself is "is it really that noticeable?"

To answer that question in a word… yes!

As mentioned, one of the many benefits that Quantum dot OLED offers is a wider viewing angle, and as we all know a wider viewing angle offers the ability to watch from different perspectives and angles without experiencing color distortion or dimming.

But Quantum dot OLED doesn’t stop there…

Quantum dot OLED has a lower power consumption level as well as a longer lifespan than traditional OLED televisions.

It also improves upon the color gamut of the TV itself, (which is the range of colors that the TV can display) as it is enhanced by roughly 18%.

Bright color luminesce (which determines how bright and vibrant the screen appears) is improved by anywhere from between 50% to over 200% depending upon whether you are measuring white, red, blue or green colors.

When you sum it all up, the improvement that quantum dot OLED offers are so impressive that the color experts at Pantone were able to determine that Samsungs version of this technology faithfully simulates the full range of Pantone colors and skin tones!

(And to answer the question of “…and who is Pantone?”; According to Pantone.com, Pantone provides a universal language of color that enables color-critical decisions through every stage of the workflow for brands and manufacturers.)

So having said all of that, we are comfortable recommending to anyone that Quantum dot OLED is without any doubt a substantial move forward when it comes to television display technology.
